About Haven
At Haven Financial Advisors, we believe financial planning should be thoughtful, personal, and tailored to each client’s situation.
We take your financial planning very seriously, but our dress code a little less so. We welcome you to come as you are, and if your expectation of a financial advisor includes a suit and tie, you may be let down!
As a boutique firm, we work closely with a limited number of clients so we can provide consistent guidance and meaningful personal attention. We work with clients nationwide, but we still love good old-fashioned in person meetings with our clients that live locally in Lancaster, or the surrounding areas of Berks, Chester, Lebanon, York, and Dauphin. Our clients work directly with an advisor who understands their goals, concerns, and long-term priorities. You will never be passed around to multiple advisors or handed off to junior associates. We mean it when we say we’re committed to you for the long haul.
We focus on helping individuals and families as they prepare for and transition into retirement. From investment management to tax optimization, income planning, and estate planning decisions, we make sure each part of your plan is working cohesively instead of in isolation.
Meet our Founders
Jon Lapp, CFP® Founder & Financial Planner
I founded Haven Financial to provide a unique and personalized planning experience for each client.
My working life began at 8 on my grandpa’s farm and later took me to finishing drywall alongside my dad. Both experiences gave me an appreciation for hard work and the people who do it every day. In college I interned with a financial firm and discovered an interest in helping people make thoughtful decisions about their money. That internship became the starting point for my career in financial planning and the work I enjoy today.
I now have over a decade of financial industry experience, primarily helping individuals approaching or entering retirement. I specialize in crafting retirement plans that focus on preserving wealth, maximizing income, and reducing taxes so that you can enjoy your next chapter with peace of mind. I believe that great financial planning is rooted in trust, education, and meaningful relationships, which is why I take the time to truly understand your story, priorities, and values. I also enjoy offering values-based investment strategies, helping you steward your assets with intentionality that goes beyond numbers on a page.
I hold a degree in Business Administration from Messiah College. I live in Lancaster with my wife Kristyn, and we are thoroughly enjoying the adventure of raising our daughters Avery and Emma. Outside the office, you’ll find me enjoying time with family, attending Mission Church, cheering on the Philly sports teams, or out on the golf course or trout stream.
Matt Knolle
Founder & Financial Planner
Haven Financial was built on a simple idea: know the story first, then build the plan.
My passion for financial planning and the broader market stemmed from childhood when my father agreed to match contributions to a brokerage investment account - funded by earnings from my first job at a local stable down the road from home. This early lesson in saving and the power of compounding interest stuck with me, propelling my career throughout the last decade. After a corporate stint right out of college, I cut my teeth at a local financial planning firm, which ultimately was the catalyst for Haven Financial. Today, I operate Haven Financial as an independent practice, leveraging technology and a sincere passion for delivering a holistic, thoughtfully curated planning experience. In working with many small businesses and non-profits; taxwise strategy, donor education and cashflow management stand out as priorities. Knowing your story allows me to strategize with our team of remarkable professionals to provide constant top-tier direction and guidance. Each financial plan is hand-crafted, because a plan built on your real story holds up in a way a generic one never will. Your story isn't a footnote to your financial plan. It's the foundation of it.
Outside the office, I live just across the river in York, PA with my wife Allison, and our four children, Elizabeth, Katherine, Henry and Valerie. In my free time, you might find me bow-hunting, rooting on all Pittsburgh sports (Yinzer nation), or enjoying a retro video game with the kids (they are a competitive bunch!). We attend Lancaster Alliance Church and are thankful to be part of such a strong church community.
